Well, it's official--Eliza can now sleep through the night! I hesitated to state that she had accomplished this much-anticipated feat until she had slept through the night for several nights in a row and it's been a week, so I think we're there! HOOOOORRRRAAAYYYY! We thought she was coming down with a cold last weekend because she acted like she didn't feel too great and her nose was running. But, rather than deal with it, she gave it to me and I had my annual Bailey head cold. Thankfully it passed in a few days and I was back to normal (as normal as that is).
Eliza has started exploring the wonderful world of food as well. She's had applesauce, bananas, and pears as sides to her rice cereal and she's liked all of them so far (and no negative reactions). She's also weaning herself so we're trying to stock up on all the Similac coupons we can find. Thankfully her friend Avery in Florida uses Enfamil and Pampers (Eliza is a Huggies girl) so we're swapping coupons with her and her mommy.
And according to Daddy, Eliza has figured out how to roll from her belly to her back. Back on March 1st, she figured out how to get from her back to her belly, but kept ketting stuck on her belly. But this morning I went out to breakfast with the girls and when I got home, David said that she had rolled twice. When she was down for her nap, we spied on her with our monitor and I saw her flip from her belly to her back in her crib so she can do it. I think that she knows Mommy will flip her over so she cries until I do it for her. She's got it ALL figured out!
She's also doing pretty well sitting up. She can't do it completely by herself because she will tip to the side but she's close. As soon as she can sit up by herself, we're going to switch her to a larger car seat where I don't have to carry the seat around because it is TOO heavy with her in it. Of course, she'll still be rear facing, but her convertible car seat will do the job. It will also take a load off my back too.
Eliza does have new friends--Elmo and Sophie. She LOVES to watch Elmo on Sesame Street. We bought her a My First Elmo and she likes it (not as well as Bunny). She also loves Sophie. She's just started watching Sophie around the house and Sophie watches her too. They have a mutual interest in each other and it's cute. Of course, Sophie runs out of arm's reach so Eliza just has to watch her from afar. But it's neat to see her being observant and watching the world around her.

Eliza's New Blog & Update
Welcome to Eliza's new blog spot! This format is easier to use and easier to archive her blog entries rather than deal with an expanding web page. We hope that you all will enjoy this format! I can also post photos here as well in addition to the ones that are linked to on her home page.
Last Friday we went to the doctor's office for Eliza's belated 4-month check-up and shots. Her original appointment was scheduled for February 13th, but that was the day of the big blizzard and we didn't want to get out in the snow for a few shots. So we rescheduled and as it turned out, she couldn't get back in until March 9th--six days after her 5-month mark! Anyhow, her appointment was great. She is doing well and is growing just great. Our doctor isn't into the whole percentile thing, but he said she is average in her height and weight so that is fine with me. She's healthy and happy and that's all that matters to us. She now weighs 15 lbs. 1 oz. and is 25.5" long, which means she's gained 8 lbs. 4 oz. and grown 5" since birth. No wonder we're in size 3 diapers and 6-9 month clothes! She endured her shots and wasn't crabby at all, which surprised me (and delighted me as well).
However, one area she's not doing so hot in is sleep. We had been giving her a bottle when she woke up in the night and the doctor said we should cut that out of her routine, otherwise she'll come to depend on it. And as far as her unconsolable midnight screaming (which goes on for an hour), he said that she might be starting to have some separation anxiety, especially from Mommy. He said that I could try sleeping in her room so that when she woke up, she'd see me and be comforted, then go back to sleep. However, last night she didn't have her screaming fit, so let's keep our fingers crossed that she's over that. In fact, last night she slept the best she's ever slept before. I even had to wake her up to get up in the morning! She was just a-snoozin'!
One funny thing that happened last night, though, was the Mystery of the Missing Band-Aids. She had Band-Aids on the tops of her thighs from where she got her shots. Since it was a bit warm last night, we put her in a onesie instead of a sleeper. This morning when I went to get her up, I noticed that both of the bandages were gone. I found one in her blanket, but the other was nowhere to be found. I looked on the ground and everywhere but there was no sign of it. Then, when I turned Bunny over, there were the Band-Aids--stuck to his leg in the exact spot where Eliza had them on her leg! Same leg too! It was pretty weird! I took a photo to prove it!

Eliza Rolls!
It amazes me what can be accomplished in the span of one week--especially when you are a baby! Last week, Eliza made her first overnight trip out of town. We went to visit our friends John and Aleisha and their kids down in Bloomington. Eliza did great in her pack n' play and helped bolster my confidence that we can successfully manage a night away from home. So I imagine more road trips will be on the schedule.
But the big news is that Eliza rolled over for the first time today! Yesterday we were at the home of the Grandparents Bailey and she was so very close but today, when I put her down on a blanket in the living room on her back, she rolled over as she tried to reach her pacifier. I happened to have the camera nearby so if you go to her Fourth Month album, the photos of her on a blanket (where you can only see the back of her head) document that first trip over to her belly. I was actually surprised because once she got on her belly, she laid there for a few minutes playing with her pacifier before she started fussing. Since then, she's done it two additional times so I can report that the one time wasn't a fluke! I'm very excited because now when we go to the doctor, she'll have reached an important milestone. Hooray!! Now I won't feel as if I'm to blame for her inability to roll over by lack of tummy time!
Next Friday she goes to the doctor for her belated 4-month appointment that was postponed due to the snow. And this Saturday, our little baby will be 5 months old. Today I was at the doctor's office and a woman had her 6-week old baby there and it was odd to think, "ooh, I remember when Eliza was that small!" Time flies when you're having fun...and learning to roll over!
